Samernes brætspil tablut er en efterkommer af vikingernes hnefatafl. Tablut blev spillet i Lapland til op i 1700-1800-tallet. Den svenske botaniker Carl von Linné så på en ekspedition i 1732 i Lapland samerne spille tablut og noterede spillereglerne ned i sin dagbog. Det er takket være denne dagbog, at man i dag kender spillereglerne for tablut og dermed også for hnefatafl.
The Sami board game Tablut is a descendant of the Viking board game Hnefatafl. Tablut was played in Lapland until 1700-1800-years. On an expedition in Lapland in 1732, the Swedish botanist Carl von Linné saw Samis play Tablut, and he noted the game rules in his diary. Thanks to this diary, today the game rules for Tablut are known, and thereby also for Hnefatafl.
