SAAMI TABLUT

Quick recap in English: I took inspiration from Linnaeus' drawings and notes from the 1700s' Lule Sámi area (more on that here: https://result.uit.no/reaidu/velkommen/ ... ll/tablut/).

- Linnaeus says that a reindeer skin was used for the board, so I gave the board a color that mimics the color of reindeer skin.

- While Linnaeus says that the patterns on the board was embroidered, I took some artistic liberty and instead decorated it with a red color to mimic the color of boiled alder tree bark, which has traditionally been used to make patterns on reindeer skin.

- The pieces are stylized versions of those drawn by Linneaus.

I've had some problems making the pieces transparent, but I think (hope) I've managed to do it correctly this time.

I've made two different variants of the board.

The first is inspired by traditional Sámi ornaments.

- The castle is inspired by a type of Sámi sun symbol.

- The illustration of the captured king uses a pattern known from other traditional Sámi games (riebangárdi, cuhkka - cf. https://result.uit.no/reaidu/velkommen/ ... ill/dablo/)

- The illustration of the escaped king is inspired by a different type of Sámi sun symbol.

The second design is inspired by the goavddis, Sámi ritual drums, sometimes called "shaman's drums". They were made on reindeer skin and decorated with the red of alder tree bark.

I used drawings of drums that are registered as being from the Lule Sámi area, e.g. the area where Linnaeus wrote down the rules for Tablut. (See more drums here: https://old.no/samidrum/locations.html).

- The castle is based on a type of sun symbol. The sun symbols were often placed in the middle of the drum, so it's fitting to place that in the middle of the board.

- The captured king symbol is inspired by the skull-like head of a deity drawn on one of the drums.

- The escaped king symbol is based on a boat drawn on one of the drums.

...I wasn't quite satisfied with the castle symbol in the Drum design, so here's a new version of that.

Now succeeded. The pieces were transparent ok, but it was necessary to do the indexed thing also, which Marian Luck found out about earlier in this thread:

Hi Hagbard,

Herewith I send you some new designs, based on the famous 'Sutton Hoo' (king) and 'Coppergate' helmets (soldiers). I designed them with the 'Simple Tyr' variant in mind, but please feel free to use them on any variant you like. Like always, first I send the regular pieces, in the following message I will include the 'losing' and 'winning' king.

Best regards
Masterluke
