Re: Advices?
The win on corner vs win on edge is the biggest change one can think of. The main variant we have explored and found relatively solid is Copenhagen Hnefatafl (which is an extension of Fetlar Hnefatafl, so you can try that first if you want to get started). The issue with the draws can be much easier...

Re: General rules
Hello unhandyandy, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm not one to argue with the historical part, but I tend to disagree. Not only because the player who choose to end the game prematurely by repetition is basically a coward, which would have been unthinkable between vikings...I think the player w...

Re: Copenhagen Hnefatafl
Is there a real reason we want those draws anyways? 8/8b seem to strongly contradict rule 10. Why not simply declare this a black win? We did that in in various offline games, since that removes the dire need for an umpire all the time to decide with rule takes precedence (which is highly subjective...

Re: Neural networks artificial intelligence
@Fishbreath: Do you think we can get the code nice and clean? I see that as the major issue. I actually say I'm very much interested in that route, and wouldn't mind contributing. Please don't compare everything to chess - that's a totally different game. Chess has much more complex representation b...
Re: Advices?
In case anybody is interested I'd love to contribute my knowledge about the game. While I've slightly gotten out of shape (Casshern and Plantagenet would almost surely beat me right now) recent years, I feel like there are a few basic concepts that really help with understanding game positions (gamb...

Re: Nath-project
If anybody thinks about revisiting this. Recent results of Leela Chess Zero show that a lot of this can be done with less resources. I think that these neronal stuff work much better with Hnefatafl than with chess, because we have an incredibly simple way of representing the features of the position...

Re: Youtube channel
I think the problem with the speech is not the overall volume (which can be increase fairly easily), but little dynamic variation of the voice which is probably due the same reason. I think it makes it less engaging to listen to, specially for players not used to the material overall. I'd be very in...

Re: Compiling a list of openings
My point is that we aren't getting anywhere near that "large population". You need a few geniuses to get closer to the perfect play, and despite our community stagnated a couple of years, there is some promise that players pick up the struggle to progress the game again. A lot of these tables only a...

Re: Nath-project
I'd never want to limit the ways we explore the game in any way. I don't have the gift of perfect foresight. I came to think in the past three years that NNs might even be better, since they might be used tell us something qualitative (not just in a quantitative "comparing" sense) about the game, wh...
