Re: Brandubh 7x7

Brandubh balances. The Brandubh 7x7 game balance is at the moment measured to +1.32 (setup Brandubh cross 7x7). To ensure that there aren't other setups with a finer balance, two alternative setups were tested: Brandubh line and Brandubh circle. Game balance results are: x . b . b . x . . . . . . ....

Stone Age game. Note item 6 in the photo below; black, polished game pieces found in a stone age settlement in Denmark, several small pieces with one larger piece. Stone age board game with a chief piece? Or a stone age hunters' game with a prey piece? http://www.kjeldlarsen.mono.net/upl/9844/Kgeve...

Re: Hnefatafl Internet Championship

Evaluation of the Championship Tournament 2015. What worked well: A month of signing in before the tournament. Are-You-Sure step in the sign in for the tournament. That everybody can join. Re: Copenhagen Hnefatafl

The draw in Copenhagen is still an interesting subject. I remember that it was Adam's hobbyhorse to get rid of as many draws as possible in the Copenhagen game. And a very useful hobbyhorse it was too, since it turned out to be possible to do so and still have a well functioning game, probably even ...

Re: Copenhagen Hnefatafl

As for the two Copenhagen rules for repetitions, 7c and 8, they cover two sorts of repetition: 1) The side stepping repetition. Often an eternal check repetition, in any case a repetition to break out from some position, but in vain, since the break out attempts are all the time stopped by the oppon...

Re: Copenhagen Hnefatafl

I did an analysis on the archived games and found that no Copenhagen game lasted more than 64 (half)moves after the latest capture of a piece (i.e. 32 full moves). I would suggest to simply transfer the chess fifty-move rule into the Copenhagen hnefatafl. Wikipedia says: "The fifty-move rule in ches...

Re: Classic game books

What precisely do you want to know? I have both. Murray's full description is nine pages long, but I can give you his introductory paragraph that contains the gameplay. Scandinavia and Iceland: Tafl, hnefatafl (HC. 445); Pre-conquest England: Tafl; Wales: Tawlbwrdd (F. R. Lewis); Ireland: name unre...

Re: Copenhagen Hnefatafl

The shieldwall rule. Does somebody know the origin of the hnefatafl shieldwall rule? The rule is explained in this German page: http://www.hnefatafl.net/englisch/ehnefatafl.html#Schildwall The Shieldwallrule Shieldwallrule means the application of the double trap and the capture of the king on the ...
