Re: The State Of Play Tafl Online

Is there a standard format for recording tafl games? Is there an app for editing lines and annotations? Like pgn editors for chess? I don't know of any editors. We have the long notation of [a-k]\d{1,2}-[a-k]\d{1,2}x{0,9} where the x is purely optional and isn't necessarily part of the notation at ...

Re: Nath-project

I'm from a pure math background as well. And I think that's the reason I'm annoyed by this. We kinda have to most abstract way of writing stuff down, but it seems that when it comes to computer we suddenly forget to specify the properties our abstractions should have. If your goal is being portable ...

Re: Nath-project

Yeah, I get that a lot. :) It doesn't bother me because I don't like standard OO and JS has lambda expressions, GC, and is easily extensible. I think all that gc is a plague. The thing I never really understood is why the refcount nearly died by now, but I guess it's due to the fact that people lik...

Re: The State Of Play Tafl Online

A quiet move in tafl is usually deadly Isn't it normal for Black to make quiet surrounding moves? When the game is basically already decided, black makes calm moves, because he has nothing to gain my aggressive moves. That only happens, when the white escape is already securely blocked. The critica...

Re: World Tafl Federation

Can you elaborate why you want a CM title at all?

Re: Nath-project

I try to avoid js like the plague. ;) But I'm still surprised that a language that isn't even fully compiled (yet oo-ish) survived that long (at least in browsers it's a big thing). But I still think it's a rather odd choice for a game engine. My engine currently get 30 k nodes per second with a sin...

Re: The State Of Play Tafl Online

Hnefatafl (unless you choose something like a 13x13 variant) is much more aggressive than chess. A quiet move in tafl is usually deadly (unless the game was more or less decided already). While in Copenhagen Hnefatafl the distance (in moves) of the king to the corner is more a measurement for the ga...

Re: World Tafl Federation

I'm not entirely sure whether I should want more titles right now. What I am sure about however is that it's a bad idea to couple stuff with the fairly ambiguous rating. I think we should try to make a title mean something special, to show that a player archived something notable. I don#t even think...

Re: The State Of Play Tafl Online

Well, while the complexity of Hnefatafl is bigger than the complexity of chess, your comparison isn't fair. We don't have the same amount of preordering and razoring a modern chess engine has. No modern chess engine could calculate anything interesting without cutting (more than 80 % of the variants...

Re: Nath-project

I'm not a hardware guy. I hate hardware. Hardware mostly fails without decent debugging options and quite often because of time-races... That being said, I have at least some basic understanding how computers work. My movegen (written in C) isn't incredibly well optimized, but reasonable fast. Yes t...
