Re: Approaching Festivals and Teaching Tafl Games
I've done workshops & tournaments over the last 2-3 years at Asatru community events that were typically 3-5 days in length (Asatru - Reconstruction of Viking era religion). The workshops I've done were 60-90 minutes in length. When I started, I taught & used Copenhagen rules, as some people there w...

Re: Gaming activity
Is the Nielsen layout the one used in old hnefatafl 13x13? For the white pieces, yes. the black pieces in the Nielsen layout are as in Hist. Hnef. 13x13 I was kind of interested in trying out the 11x11 T cross with tablut rules. The Tablut T cross 11x11 has been tried, it's listed on the measured b...

Re: Hnefatafl Internet Championship
On the Championship Format: I think the mixed format is a good idea. With the various milestones reached and Historical Hnefatafl formulated, something had to done with it. As for it’s results so far, looking at each division: Tunsberg - 2 of the top 3 rated players will be moving on, could include ...

Re: Gaming activity
Until now, most of the time, exploring the tafl universe and researching and studying details of variants have been a high priority. The test tournament is a powerful tool for that. There are now only a few variants left, which are little known and need examining. Here are avenues I think are worth...

2016-07-15 14:23:34 fairland: How young were the children? I may be able to use a similar strategy with 15-16 year olds or do you think I would be over-simplifying? 2016-07-15 22:35:50 altti: @Fairland: 7 to 15yrs. the older kids were interested in additional variants very quickly. I'll try that te...

Re: Hnefatafl Internet Championship
I think either Tablut 9x9 or Tawlbwrdd 11x11 would work well to shorten the overall length of the tournament. The Tablut 9x9 is also more likely to get more players in the first round, due to it being a shorter game. Though, as Hagbard says, it may be too short.

Re: Gaming activity
Seems good overall. 10 minute buffer, 15 minute expiry, 5 min discover & accept all seem good. My concern is that the invite issuer would end up with an 80 minute or more time commitment. (60+15+5), or if the game ran 100 moves, would be (70+15+5) for max. Granted, those aren't the most likely outco...

Re: Gaming activity
Proposal for 'Short' Tafl Games The current 'Quick' game format is a bit clunky. The main concern I have with it is that if something were to happen where the game couldn't be finished in one sitting, the players are locked-in to figuring out how to finish it in the next 3 days. To put it another w...
