Re: Member introductions

Hey folks, Tim Millar from UK here, I play under the name of "Crust" (long story, but let's just say it's a character in a cheesy videogame). I was introduced to hnefatafl by Adam Bartley (known here as "Adam") whom I met at art school way back in the last millennium; you can see his sculptural tafl...

Re: Hnefatafl Internet Championship

Interesting discussion... I have 4 points to make (just my personal reactions): 1: I think introducing a fee or subscription would be ghastly; I'd strongly prefer to keep both the site and the championship free, and open to all. 2: I don't like the idea of having entry requirements; I think the impo...

Also that the rule sets are under constant review and subject to development should new historical evidence come to light...

I have found our 9x9 sea-battle is a good place to start, though as you know it can be a real brain-teaser

Re: General rules

That was a fascinating article, Hagbard, thanks so much for taking the time to write and post it. Test games and the internet. On this site (aagenielsen.dk) we have till now tried 83 tafl variants, with emphasis on variants described in historical sources, described in important books and articles, ...

Re: Tawlbwrdd 11x11

Yesterday I brought with me the Hnefatafl game to a family birthday party... I invited three of the guests for a game of Hnefatafl and decided to use the Tawlbwrdd 11x11 variant (Tawlbwrdd Lewis cross, Welsh tafl). ... This is a very efficient game in company with beginners, the simplest tafl game ...

Re: Planning WTF Convention 2016

I agree Copenhagen would be a good compromise regarding distance. I think he had in mind that there are quite a few tafl players coming directly from Berlin. It's a cool town also. And secondly, he'd be able to attend the convention himself, as he's not willing to travel, but I guess that's just a ...

Re: Brandubh 7x7

I'd be happy to promote these instead of my own rules (as currently used on my site, leaflets and books, and played on Dragonheels' Lair). The balance is better than my old rules and the consistency with tablut is an advantage. Great! For what it's worth, my experience as a player who has played a ...

Re: Tawlbwrdd 11x11

Hagbard, this will probably sound like a silly question, but in your figures for game balance, I believe "+1" represents perfect balance; my question is, does "-1" also represent perfect balance? If so, the system skips any numbers between +1 and -1, so that subtracting 0.1 from 1 would give -1.1, a...
