Re: A new tafl-derived game

Hi Luk, at first sight the 2-formations game looks better to me, I fear the other one could be too chaotic. In this regard, did you test both versions in real life? What results and impressions did you have?

Re: Hnefatafl Internet Championship

Hi, I personally think the elimination tournament format is a good idea, but maybe I'd keep the number of games lower, maybe the regular 2 games til the quarterfinals, 4 games in the semifinals and 6 games in the final.
Bye!

Re: Ardi Ri with throne (possible variant)

@Hagbard: at the end of the day, despite the good premises and the different rule-set attempts, the "Slo Ri" variant doesn't seem to work very well unfortunately. The tournament showed that the balance switched all the way towards black, after the players got a bit of experience in the new dynamics....

Re: Ardi Ri with throne (possible variant)

Another hint that came to my mind for the variant without the blocking throne: what if white was the first to move?
I noticed that in the old tests it was black to have the first move. :?:

Ardi Ri with throne (possible variant)

@Hagbard: I was thinking about an Ard Ri variant that could be balanced and also have a throne. The slow-king + 4-side capture is still too easy for white (a sort of edge-escape Magpie), instead the slow-king + 2-side capture is too hard for white (although not impossible). That said, I was wonderin...

Re: 'Corner Win' Hnefatafl

I think the corner-escape diffusion in the modern era mostly happened as the consequence of a long series of reconstruction tentatives, which tried to solve imbalances due to bad translations of the tablut rules. So in very simple terms, the 11x11 corner variants we play today are basically the perf...

Re: World Tafl Federation

Mmm, "Best Revelation" should be a player who joined the website in the last year, and that made a good amount of points + placements in tournaments. Example: chosing between the players which joined in 2020 and got a title like AM, CM etc Draganov comes to my mind for example. (Forget "player of th...

Re: World Tafl Federation

A thing that came across my mind: could it be nice to have something like "player of the year" (besides the world champ) or like "best revelation of the year" (for players who joined in the last year)? Based on.some criteria to be defined.

Re: 'Corner Win' Hnefatafl

As far as I know there is no archaeological evidence for of 11x11 boards with marked corners.
I might be wrong, but I think the corner markings were borrowed from the 7x7 boards.
Is anyone aware of something else?
