Re: Tafl in Russia

Amazing!! But I hope that we shall be able to play other more balanced tafl variants in the new tournaments ... First and foremost, we shall continue to spread the word of the Historical Hnefatafl rules in praise of Tablut and Tawlbwrdd. With a very small change the game is well balanced on your fin...

Re: Tafl in Denmark

Classic Board Game Café. February 2018 Hnefatafl was presented as one of the games at a Classic Board Game café. Re: Tafl in Russia

Thank you, very interesting! Your post opens a door to a new universe - half of the world known to the vikings. It seems that the name "Obereg" is a modern invention by the author Mihail Zadornov: Sergej Tsvetkov: "I'm often asked, where does this unusual game come from? Why doesn't anybody know thi...

Re: Tafl in Russia

Ded Fomich and Steiger sent this mail about a tafl evening in Moscow: Answered: First to answer your questions. About the modern Russian Tavlei which you describe. We know and have tested this variant, we used the working title "Skalk Hnefatafl 9x9 (Expomedia)". Like you, we found that the game is ...

Re: Tafl in Russia

Ded Fomich and Steiger sent this mail about a tafl evening in Moscow: Last Saturday I kept Steiger company and visited so called “hobby centre” named “Geek Wars”, where a hnefatafl (in Russian «тавлеи» - “tavlei” as you well know) training was provided by Dmitriy Pashkov who produces figures of viki...

Re: Neural networks artificial intelligence

"cc dark" sent this mail: Greetings! You should totally use neural net to make this game complete. I suggest to stay close with one version of the game as much as possible. Keep a single set of rules and call it just simple Tafl. Put aside all historical threads, who cares how they played it? All gr...

Re: General rules

Regarding Copenhagen, I'm pretty sure we have been over the edge capture idea various times before. The geography of the board allows for the deadzones, creating opportunities to immobilise but not capture the king, forcing black to immobilise, surround or destroy all white soldiers. This makes the...

Re: Copenhagen Hnefatafl

Small adjustment of Copenhagen rule 10. I suggest that the 50 moves limit in Copenhagen rule 10 be changed into 100 moves. Sometimes at the annual Hnefatafl Championship Tournament, a player explores the edges of some or other rule. It happened this year when "epm180" as white against "xerxes" clev...

Re: General rules

"Dead squares". In some variants it is possible to place a piece on a square, where it cannot be captured; a "dead square". Somehow this feels not right. Enemies can be packed all around the piece and it is still not captured, just stuck on its sqare and immobile. http://aagenielsen.dk/kongepaakant...

Re: Gaming activity

This is a very interesting statistic. I would prefer this method of tiebreaker (opponents playing two additional games), opposed to tiebreakers like game length or pieces captured. ... If players split games in two consecutive rounds (the round robin round and the addition tiebreaker round, no prev...
