Re: Tafl in Denmark

November 2018 I brought the tafl game to the Nordic Game Day, but unfortunately there seemed to be little interest for the classic board game, as the guests concentrated only on "modern board game" style games.

Re: Tafl in Denmark

October 2018 Hnefatafl was again presented at the Classic Board Game café. The other games were this time Daldøs, Trax, Nine Men's Morris, Othello (Reversi), 9x9 Go, Kalaha, Wari/Awalé/Oware, Quoridor, Checkers, Frisian Checkers and Catch The Lion. This time the Saami Tablut (Historical Hnefatafl 9x...

Re: Hnefatafl Internet Championship

- Or also two from Round 2: Round 1 is roughly half of the players, with the lower ratings. Two winners from each group go to Round 2. Round 2 is rest of the players plus winners from Round 1. Two winners from each group go to the Final. Right now 26 players registered for the 2018 tournament. Abou...

Re: 15x15 tafl

Was Historical Hnefatafl played on board size 15x15? We have tested Hist. Hnef. on the 15x15 board and found that it works. Hist. Hnef. rules are scalable and probably function on any board from size 9x9 and upwards (plus on 7x7 with a couple of adjustments). The Hist. Hnef. 15x15 has, however, not...

Re: Re writing the rules a bit

Thank you for this formulation! It is uploaded to the Rules section. Just a comment about point 8: If a player cannot move, he lost. About repetition, were the software perfect, it would detect the Fetlar repetition and make the game a draw. Alas this automatic feature is not implemented, so the pla...

So I propose that the capture-two-blacks exception for Fetlar be replaced by the general surround-all rule.

Modified: - Or more like the Football World Cup running right now: Round 1 is roughly half of the players, with the lower ratings. Two winners from each group go to Round 2. Round 2 is rest of the players plus winners from Round 1. One winner from each group goes to the Final. This scheme in work l...

Re: Fetlar Hnefatafl

In the Fetlar game, as outlined by the Fetlar Hnefatafl Panel, it is always possible for white to create a center draw fort in his first two moves, and nothing can stop it. This imperfection of the Fetlar rules of course spoils the game, and something had to be done to prevent white from doing that....
