Re: a new tafl-variant?

Another improvement to the 17 x 17 Alea Berserk (Martens) concept: I changed the starting positions of the black V-men, so that they become more involved in the game ... they exchanged places with 4 commanders. See image below

Re: a new tafl-variant?

After several test games and a tournament, it's been proven that this game favors black too much... This is mainly due to the unbeatable and non-capturing guards, which are hindering white too much and even provide shelter to attacking black pieces... So instead of helping white, they actually help ...

Hello I started playing Tafl games on this site about a year ago, but I never introduced myself properly. Better late than never, so here I go... I've been introduced to the Tafl-game in the summer of 2017 by the excellent TV-series 'The Last Kingdom'. In episode 4 of season 2, King Alfred plays the...

Re: a new tafl-variant?

No, they're not. Just guards who cannot take an cannot be taken... :)

Re: a new tafl-variant?

After some tweaking and test games, this should be the final set up of the 17 x 17 Alea Berserk (Martens). The commanders are rearranged, for they seemed to be too vulnerable.

Re: a new tafl-variant?

You're absolutely right about that, it's a mistake in the image. Thanks for noticing it!
Herewith is a graphic. The starting position of the 2 white V-men and the guards is altered too (it's an ongoing process)

Greetings

Re: a new tafl-variant?

After some testing with Hagbard, we found the game too favourable for black. So I altered the rules a bit: Now there are only two guards and two variegated men in the white army, while I added 4 variegated men in the black army. Therefore, the image herewith is also slightly altered. As of this writ...

Re: a new tafl-variant?

Hi, I downloaded your link but unfortunately, I'm a complete noob when it comes down to installing or running software. Being a graphical designer/illustrator, I enjoy working on a Mac in conjunction with a Wacom graphic tablet, but when something 'technical' is to be done, I always call help form a...

Re: a new tafl-variant?

Testing would be great, for I don't know how it's gonna work out. I did not invent the guards myself. I read about them on the boardgamegeek-website, this is the link: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/348662/approach-tafling-nirvana My merits in 'inventing' this game is bringing together different k...
