Re: The State Of Play Tafl Online

My javascript Brandubh web app is now open for business. http://unhandyandy.github.io/StrategyGames/games/Brandubh/ Not that it plays real well, I'm just tired of working on it. It plays at slightly above a beginner level, and uses a nonstandard rule set based on Damian Walker's. It is s l o w, taki...

Re: Nath-project

I studied mathematical logic, what's your field? It looks like neither of us are serious enough about programming tafl: if you were serious you;d start with brandubh, if I were serious I'd be using C. :) unhandyandy wrote: ↑ Wed Feb 06, 2019 2:15 pm Didn't the original AlphaGo program also do local ...

Re: Nath-project

I'm not smart and I never intended to give the impression. I just have the impression you are trying to taunt me. Sorry about that, I thought you were saying that solving brandubh was beneath you. Anyone, you certainly are smart - you're a former hnefatafl world champion! I never studied anything r...

Re: The State Of Play Tafl Online

I take it you've looked through the LeelaZero code?

Re: The State Of Play Tafl Online

I don't know of any reasonable DNN experiment for the value network before. It's a very different method. Deep Mind's achievement is very impressive, but I don't think there was any real conceptual breakthrough that wouldn't have occurred to most people in the field. So I'd definitely say that shou...

Re: Nath-project

If you think about the possible black moves, that might be. For reasonable board size white has just way less moves. Since the branching factor is the geometric average... I forgot about White! :o But now that you mention it, the geometric mean might be quite comparable to go. And the branching fac...

Re: The State Of Play Tafl Online

AlphaGo Zero, which brought the justification for the value and policy network I'm probably wrong, but I thought those ideas came from Monte Carlo search. The results are actually results of Deep Mind (not really Google). Deep Mind got happily acquired by google to have access to google resources. ...

Re: Nath-project

I'd just love to get a few mathematicians out of their respective bubbles. They became mathematicians because they like those bubbles. You have no more chance of that than I have of getting you into Brandubh. Well the way that's done in chess is from the algorithmic standpoint the same as retrograd...

Re: The State Of Play Tafl Online

Sorry, I wasn't clear - I meant the "web app" that plays through games. Is it server or client side? Maybe I could hack it to add editing capabilities. I think it's not only java, but plays awful. But I guess that is a question @Hagbard . I was referring to the game viewer app at http://aagenielsen...

Re: Nath-project

I think we're grabbing the same elephant at different ends. Let's get back to Hnefatafl. If I'd try to solve Brandubh, I'd forward calculate positions instead of backwards to find a candidate for a variant. If one skips all permutations and rotations, there aren't that many positions. That's not how...
