Re: Brandubh 7x7
I'm in favor of giving a win to Black in case of a repetition. That would be very clear and easy to program.

Re: Brandubh 7x7
Yes, you're right again Auskor. That means my original point still stands: There's one quirk about the new rules that bugs me a little. If the king moves from the throne to a neighboring square which is between two black pieces, then under the new rules immediately capturing the king is harder than ...

Re: Brandubh 7x7
Yes, that's how the rules sounded to me also, but I asked Branan about this specific point and he said In my mind, the new rule is only an addition to the old one. So a single move to surround the king on the 3 sides should work. Which would mean, at a minimum, the current rule set for Brandubh2 is ...

Re: Brandubh 7x7
Ah, thanks for pointing that out Auskor. But then the following statement by Branan isn't quite true. The king is captured by 4 attackers when on the throne, and by 2 attackers everywhere else, also on the squares next to the throne. This idea is straightforward and logical, the king is now treated ...

Re: Repetition of moves: some dubious positions
I agree with Ytreza I'm also more and more convinced that black should win whenever white cannot win anymore and nath, that the rules should be clear. I think White should be forbidden from repeating a position, but not Black. This would also be in line with the theme: White is trying to escape, tim...

Re: Brandubh 7x7
To be clear: in the Brandubh2 rules, a single piece can capture the King when it is adjacent to the throne? That would seem to follow from Blacks win if they manage to capture the king before he escapes. The king is captured like all other pieces, except when he is on the throne. To capture the king...

Ludii General Game System
Has anyone noticed the Ludii General Game System at https://ludii.games? It's related to the Digital Ludeme Project, http://ludeme.eu/project/index.html, which seeks to reconstruct the rules of ancient games. At the Ludii Portal you can download the Ludii Player and instructions for coding the rules...

Re: The State Of Play Tafl Online
My javascript Brandubh web app is now open for business. http://unhandyandy.github.io/StrategyGames/games/Brandubh/ Not that it plays real well, I'm just tired of working on it. It plays at slightly above a beginner level, and uses a nonstandard rule set based on Damian Walker's. It is s l o w, taki...
