Re: World Tafl Federation

Can you elaborate why you want a CM title at all?

Re: Nath-project

I try to avoid js like the plague. ;) But I'm still surprised that a language that isn't even fully compiled (yet oo-ish) survived that long (at least in browsers it's a big thing). But I still think it's a rather odd choice for a game engine. My engine currently get 30 k nodes per second with a sin...

Re: The State Of Play Tafl Online

Hnefatafl (unless you choose something like a 13x13 variant) is much more aggressive than chess. A quiet move in tafl is usually deadly (unless the game was more or less decided already). While in Copenhagen Hnefatafl the distance (in moves) of the king to the corner is more a measurement for the ga...

Re: World Tafl Federation

I'm not entirely sure whether I should want more titles right now. What I am sure about however is that it's a bad idea to couple stuff with the fairly ambiguous rating. I think we should try to make a title mean something special, to show that a player archived something notable. I don#t even think...

Re: The State Of Play Tafl Online

Well, while the complexity of Hnefatafl is bigger than the complexity of chess, your comparison isn't fair. We don't have the same amount of preordering and razoring a modern chess engine has. No modern chess engine could calculate anything interesting without cutting (more than 80 % of the variants...

Re: Nath-project

I'm not a hardware guy. I hate hardware. Hardware mostly fails without decent debugging options and quite often because of time-races... That being said, I have at least some basic understanding how computers work. My movegen (written in C) isn't incredibly well optimized, but reasonable fast. Yes t...

Re: Advices?

The win on corner vs win on edge is the biggest change one can think of. The main variant we have explored and found relatively solid is Copenhagen Hnefatafl (which is an extension of Fetlar Hnefatafl, so you can try that first if you want to get started). The issue with the draws can be much easier...

Re: General rules

Hello unhandyandy, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm not one to argue with the historical part, but I tend to disagree. Not only because the player who choose to end the game prematurely by repetition is basically a coward, which would have been unthinkable between vikings...I think the player w...

Re: Copenhagen Hnefatafl

Is there a real reason we want those draws anyways? 8/8b seem to strongly contradict rule 10. Why not simply declare this a black win? We did that in in various offline games, since that removes the dire need for an umpire all the time to decide with rule takes precedence (which is highly subjective...

Re: Neural networks artificial intelligence

@Fishbreath: Do you think we can get the code nice and clean? I see that as the major issue. I actually say I'm very much interested in that route, and wouldn't mind contributing. Please don't compare everything to chess - that's a totally different game. Chess has much more complex representation b...
