Re: Tablut

Either approach is ok. I like Fomca because I like to be more methodical. I value piece development and spacing over aggression. It is important not to be too passive, but I feel that constantly attacking and sacrificing, white is just hoping that black will make a mistake. Instead of hoping my oppo...

Re: Tablut

I like naming this position Fomca. I don’t mind Snake Tail either, but Fomca sounds much better. And the meaning is fitting. Since you arranged the square with upper and lower case, we can simply further to either Fe or Ef, I think Fe is better. And yes, this opening would refer to h3 and g1 or g2 a...

Re: Tablut

@Steiger: Yes, I meant to say e2-c2, not e2-d2. Sorry for the error. Regarding terminology, I will start another topic discussion where I explain terms in more detail. I am working on getting detailed diagrams soon as well. I apologize and thank you for your patience. Regarding specific move strateg...

Re: Tablut

I am working on getting images and diagrams, asap. I do everything from my phone, since I don’t have a computer. Here are the 6 openings moves for white that I discussed. As you can see, “positionally” they are the same no matter where you move on the board. Notice, the E and F squares can only be r...

Re: Tablut

@Steiger: Thanks for the reply. Sorry for getting ahead of myself. I wanted to get straight into discussing strategy, that I failed to clarify or define much of the terms that I use. When I talk about white moving to the A square = d4, there are 2 options for white, e4-d4 or d5-d4. Same with the D s...

Re: Tablut

White’s strategy: I think white must be very mindful of when and where he moves the outer pawns: c5, e7, g5, and e3. For black to create a cirlce around the king and his men, I think the most efficient/effective plan is e2-c2, d1-d2, c2-c3, and finally a4-b4. Repeat on all four sides and black wins....

Re: Corner Capture in Tablut and Tawlbwrdd

We tested this rule a fews years ago. But in all the games played, I don’t think a situation came up in which a piece as threatened in the corner, much less captured. We decided not to add it as a rule since it is basically unnecessary. In truth, I have played a few games where this rule may have af...

Re: Brandubh 7x7

Please forgive my ignorance here, as I do not play Brandubh. Although move 15 is an attack on a white piece, white could move f3-g3 or king to d3. Not sure if either of these moves is strong or if white is simply in a losing position. The move repetition clearly starts on move 16 when white moves f3...
