Thanks for the reply Hagbard. That's interesting that you have chosen to ignore it but I guess it really only speeds up the game a bit for the attackers anyway, so doesn't really detract from the fundamentals of the game.
Cheers
Kev.

Re: Historical Hnefatafl
Thanks again for replying, and taking the time to supply those references! Yes I've had the situation come up a couple of times, and played it as described. I'm not sure what rules most people play so was interested to see. That book looks like an interesting read so I'll give it a try! Cheers Kev

Re: Historical Hnefatafl
Thanks for the reply Tuireann Yes, that part seems clear, I was referring to the following section: If one of his own people happens to be in this fourth square, and one of his enemies in number 3 next to it, the soldier thus enclosed between his king and the enemy is killed. I've noticed it from th...

Re: Historical Hnefatafl
This is a great resource, it seems the only thing not 100% certain for now is the layout. I've assumed in my games that the King could move one space from the citadel into a space surrounded by three enemies without being captured as it seems that no piece is captured in a passive way. I was wonderi...

Re: Historical Evidence for 11 x 11 boards
Thanks for replying Tuireann, Yes after reading the forum post here, I agree on the Saami rules. My own investigations had only led me so far, but after reading some of the forums posts here, I can see that the most logical conclusions have already been made by the members of this site who are clear...

Re: Historical Evidence for 11 x 11 boards
In the meantime I've been reading this forums post regarding Saami tablut (which is probably old news to everyone here), so this has answered a lot of my questions regarding the adoption of Linnaeus' rules. http://aagenielsen.dk/hnefataflforum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6 I'm guessing then that the ...

Re: Historical Evidence for 11 x 11 boards
Thanks for the reply cynigstan! That website has explained a lot to me over the past few weeks, if it's yours as your username suggests then thanks for creating an interesting and really informative site! So if no evidence for an 11 x 11 board with corners escapes exists, do you know how this came a...

Historical Evidence for 11 x 11 boards
Hi Folks, This is my first post! I had a question regarding hnefatafl and I though this would be a good place to ask the experts :) I recently picked up a copy of hnefatafl from the Museum in Edinburgh and have really enjoyed playing it. After googling (a lot) I found the Carl Linnaeus tablut rules ...
